Danny Reed has quickly become a rising star in the broadcasting world with his knowledge, passion, versatility.
Reed was named the radio Voice of the Georgia Southern Eagles in August 2015 serving as the sideline reporter for football broadcasts before taking over full play-by-play duties for men's basketball and baseball. For 2016, he assumed the play-by-play reins for football and now calls a full schedule for each of the three major sports.
Before moving to Statesboro, GA, Reed was the Broadcast/Media Relations Manager for the Bowling Green Hot Rods (KY), the Midwest League Class-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, from April through September 2015, where he served as the team's primary media contact and was named the league's Broadcaster of the Year.
From 2011-14, he served as the Director of Broadcasting and radio play-by-play voice for The Citadel - a Division I military college in Charleston, SC which participated in the Southern Conference - broadcasting football, men's basketball and baseball, hosting radio and TV coach's shows, maintaining the on-air production and traffic for a statewide 13-station network while also handling the network's advertising and marketing strategies.
Prior to The Citadel, Reed was the Communications Coordinator and radio play-by-play voice for the Charleston RiverDogs, the Class-A South Atlantic League affiliate of the New York Yankees, from August 2008-11. In that position, Reed not only broadcast over 400 RiverDogs games, but also handled broadcast production, created traffic logs, hosted a weekly manager's show during the season, worked with local and national media outlets to coordinate stories and interviews, and prepared daily game notes, stat packs, rosters and post-game stories. Reed also sold radio advertisements for the broadcasts and aided in preparing marketing strategies in the generation of ticket and ballpark signage sales.
In the baseball offseason, Reed served as the studio host and play-by-play fill-in for The Citadel's football and basketball broadcasts as well as the broadcast engineer. He also broadcasted Lowcountry High School football for flagship stations ESPN Radio 910 and Yahoo Sports Radio 950 AM as well as producing various live and syndicated network programming.
From March though July 2008, Reed served as the Charleston RiverDogs' media relations intern, pre and post-game studio host, and play-by-play fill-in.
Before making the move to Charleston in March, Reed completed an internship with the Hagerstown Suns of the South Atlantic League's Northern Division in 2007, serving as the team's Public Address announcer.
Reed has also worked with ESPN3 as a college basketball announcer and with Learfield Sports as a play-by-play fill-in for the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga women's basketball in December 2010.
Originally from Cumberland, MD, Reed graduated summa cum laude from Waynesburg University in Waynesburg, Pa. in May 2007 with a B.A. in Communication emphasizing Sports Broadcasting/Sports Information and a minor in Marketing. While at Waynesburg, he called play-by-play for men's and women's basketball, baseball and high school football on the school's flagship station WCYJ-FM.
